"The Word Is Food For Our Soul"

removed started this conversation
People today are starving for God's Word but they don't know it. They're starving, they're hungry, they're reaching out, they're grasping. They realize the vacancies in their life, the hollow places, the shallow places, the lack of insight, the lack of understanding. They cannot solve the problems and dilemmas of life. They are starving for God's Word and they do not know it and are being offered a lot of substitutes that don't help.

The purpose of the Word is to bring God's grace and healing love to people with life-disrupting problems. The Bible is the perfect standard by which to measure our character and personal growth and development, it also offers some guidelines which will help all of us mold our characters into what God would have them to be. God provides food for physical life, and He also provides the Word for out Spiritual life. The Word is food for our soul

"Man does not live on bread alone." In other words, there is more to life than physical hunger and its satisfaction. There is more to life than the meeting of the body's needs. Our Lord has this in mind when He says, (Matt 6:25) Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? The Lord tells us here that there is more to life than physical wants and needs.

The physical body with its appetites and desires is not all there is to life. We have to remember we have not only a body but also a soul. When God created us, He created us a body and a soul. A man without a body is incomplete; but a man without a soul is also incomplete. To be human is to be body and soul. And, in this life both facets of our being need to be cared for and looked after.

The Word is as necessary for the soul as bread is for our body. The Word is as necessary for our spiritual life as bread is for our physical life. After all, it is in the Word that we hear about Jesus Who died for our sins and was raised for our justification.

Scripture is God's love letter to us and for us. It plays a good and necessary role in our relationship with God. For, it is in Scripture that we hear God's personal thoughts and plans. By means of Scripture we are bound close to God so that our relationship to Him grows and develops. If we really believe this than physical security will not be our primary concern or first priority in life. So many look for security in good jobs, a secure marriage relationship, a healthy bank account. But in so doing they often neglect or put aside their eternal security.

If we really believe that "... man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord" then we will set aside time each day for the Word of God in personal or family devotions. God's Word is central. Our lifestyle, our priorities, our outlook ought all to reflect the centrality of the Word.

My friends, to live, to really live, none of us can look to bread alone. All of us must learn that we don't have life just because we have something to put in our mouths. "... man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord."

I encourage you to take some time each day and devote it to reading the Bible, even if it is only one verse a day, because God will increase your appetite. I also encourage you to share your favorite verse, or verses that have help you in life. Remember we can encourage ourselves by encouraging others.

God Bless

But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep (died), lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.

. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep (dead).
. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.
. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.
. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.
. Therefore comfort one another with these words.
(1 Thes 4.13-18)

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

. to an inheritance incorruptible
. and undefiled
. and that does not fade away,
. reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, receiving the end of your faith the salvation of your souls.
(1 Pet 1.3-9)

Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary.

There is no searching of His understanding.

He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall,

But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength;

they shall mount up with wings like eagles,
they shall run and not be weary,
they shall walk and not faint
. (Isa 40.28-31)

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. (1 Pet 5.6-7)

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.
But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. (1 Cor 10.13)

O LORD, You have searched me and known me.
You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off.
You comprehend my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways.
For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether.
You have hedged me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain it.

Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?

If I ascend into heaven, You are there;
If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.
If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me.

(Jesus said:)
"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you."
(Mt 5.3-12)

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

Hatred stirs up strife,
but love covers all offenses.

—Proverbs 10:12

Whoever covers an offense seeks love,
but he who repeats a matter separates close friends.

If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat,
and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink,
for you will heap burning coals on his head,
and the Lord will reward you.

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.  (Rom 8.38-39)
